Robin Thicke has really not had a great few months, or even a great last year. His marriage broke up, his biggest hit was featured in a lawsuit that he lost, and his last album pretty much flopped. It would surprise no one if his new single, released at the beginning of last month, slipped past just about everyone. But he’s giving it a shot anyway, with a tune called “Morning Sun.”
The song is actually pretty good; or at least I like it. I’ve played it numerous times since the release, and have featured it on a playlist of highlights from the last month. But after suffering a career blowup, he’s trying to get things back on track. If people give the song a chance, he may be headed on the right track.
Say what you want about the lawsuit from Marvin Gaye’s family, but I didn’t think “Blurred Lines” was a complete ripoff. The feel was similar, sure, but I didn’t think it was a wholesale copy of “Got To Give It Up.” This one doesn’t sound so much like something plagiarized, but more like a pleasant song for the summer. It’s available at all the usual outlets; if you like it, go get a copy. And as always, leave your impressions in the comments.
