The Infinity Dreams Award

Thank you to Amaya911 (aka The El Paso Woman) for nominating me for this award. This could become a trend—I might have to create an awards page!

Anyway, the rules (always rules!) for this award are as follows:

  1. Tell us 11 facts about yourself. (Why eleven? Why not ten or twelve?)
  2. Answer the questions that were set for you to answer.
  3. Nominate eleven bloggers and set questions for them. (hmmm, ok).
My eleven facts:
  1. I can juggle. Not quite at circus performer level (do the circuses still have jugglers?), but I can do three objects at once. I learned on a bet with a friend back in college. He taught me in less than ten minutes.
  2. Speaking of college, I am currently the only person in my immediate family who completed four years of study at a post-high school institution. A fact that I hope one day changes.
  3. I like to dance, but unfortunately I rarely have any opportunity to do so, unless it’s in my apartment to a song that moves me.
  4. I like reading-almost to my detriment. I have too much content to consume, plus books in the course of a day that I am constantly trying to streamline.
  5. At the age of thirteen, I knew all the words to the complete, 15-minute version of The Sugarhill Gang’s Rapper’s Delight. Don’t ask me to do it now, though.
  6. I like to play games. Some of my current favorites: Cards Against Humanity, Skip-Bo, Trivia Pursuit, Words With Friends.
  7. After my hairline beat a hasty retreat towards the back of my neck, I decided to go bald-so I shave my head every other day.
  8. I know it gets looks of derision in some quarters, but I still love ’80s music. Which isn’t to say I don’t love current music or music from other decades. I do. But ’80s music represents a time in my life where I had a lot of good memories.
  9. In just about three weeks, I will be celebrating my first year living in my new apartment.
  10. A Joyful Process is my third public blog under my own name. I’ve shuttered the first two.
  11. I’m a big sports fan. Basketball, baseball, soccer, football.
Amaya911’s questions for me:
  1. What is your favorite fruit? Oranges
  2. What is your astrological sign? Cancer
  3. What’s one of your favorite memories as a child? Naturally, this one involves music. I can remember my mom wearing the grooves out of the record History Of Otis Redding. The song I remember most of all from the album: “I’ve Been Loving You Too Long.”
  4. If you had to read a book more than once, what book would it be? I have read several of the late Robert B. Parker’s Spenser novels more than once, but the one book I would choose is the one that started my love for Walter Mosley: Devil In A Blue Dress.
  5. Do you speak any languages other than English? If I were much smarter 30 years ago, I’d be able to speak Spanish now. Sadly, I gave up on it after four years in high school. Look where I would be now if I had kept up with it! The opportunities I would have had! So the answer is no.
  6. What are some of your favorite things in life? I like things that make me laugh, music, sports, good friends and good times, beautiful sunsets and bright moonlight. The simple things that we often take for granted, I am trying to learn to appreciate all the more.
  7. What do you write about most in your blog? Music mostly. Sports at times, though I’m trying not to overdo it. And generally whatever interests me that I can turn into a post worth reading.
  8. Who are you the closest with in your family? My mother, who raised me as a single parent. She remains a big inspiration, even though she would tell you I don’t visit or call often enough. I’m gonna do better Mom, I promise.
  9. What do you want to change most in your life? I want to put myself out there more. I’ve been stung by rejection often, so I tend to pull back when it feels like I could be put down.
  10. What has been one of the saddest days in your life? The day that a dear friend, a person I was close to, told me she didn’t want to speak to me anymore in a letter. Never gave a reason why, and I don’t know what happened to make her feel that way. I haven’t reconnected with her since, and every now and then, it still hurts.
  11. Are you a morning person or a night person? A night person, much to the detriment of my mornings. 🙂
My nominees: I’m going to take a pass on the nominees. But if you read this post, and are so inclined to write answers to the following questions, have at it.
My questions:
  1. What is your favorite drink (non-alcoholic or alcoholic)? I won’t judge.
  2. What is your favorite movie of all time?
  3. Do you have a song that you feel like you shouldn’t like, but you do?
  4. What event in your life gives you the most pride?
  5. What is your favorite season, assuming you live in a place where you can tell the difference between Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter?
  6. Evaluate your singing talent in one of three choices: Concert hall (audience of thousands), Karaoke bar (small audience), Shower (audience of one)?
  7. Who is the person that inspires you the most?
  8. If you could travel anywhere in the world for one week, where would you go?
  9. Have you ever participated in a line dance at any event/gathering? Yes, I’m talking Booty Call, Electric Slide, Cha Cha Slide, Cupid Shuffle, or any of the country western line dances.
  10. Google, Microsoft, Amazon or Apple? As in, which tech company’s products do you use the most, or if you are a fan which is your favorite.
  11. Would you rather wake up at 5 A.M., or go to bed at 5 A.M.?

  1. @amaya911 Silly me. I KNOW what the Dollar Dance is! In fact, I was at a wedding a few years back and participated! But yes, I remember now. It was fun. A friend of my oldest daughter got married and I danced with the bride. I don’t know how I could have forgotten—it was a day when a blood vessel had burst in my eye, making one eye look really, really bad.

      1. I think it’s happened once or twice, maybe more times than I can remember. 🙂 I also enjoy the two-step and dancing to Mexican and hip-hop music. The Tootsie Roll and the Dip! LOL Yeah right like in 1995!
