Happy Belated Birthday Bob Marley

Saturday was Bob Marley’s birthday. I wanted to post something for him on that day, but because I was away on vacation (more on that later), I’m going to make the post now. There won’t be much to it, except I wanted to post my favorite Marley song. That song is “Stir It Up.”

This post was also going to discuss why some people stop at Bob Marley when it comes to reggae, and whether or not Joss Stone should be recognized as a reggae artist (the answer to that is no). But, I’m too wiped from the four hour drive and the weekend fun to give you that post. So I’ll just drop the video and hopefully some of those good vibes from the song will help you start your Monday.

If you have a favorite Bob Marley song, drop it in the comments. Have a great day!

  1. I agree, that most think Marley when they think of reggae. So much more out there, from Tosh, Third World, Jimmy Cliff, Bunny Wailer, Jah Cure, etc, etc. I love Bob Marley but there’s more reggae out there than just his. I ordinarily would’ve posted about this too but my weekend was nuts. Glad somebody mentioned his b’day. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

    1. I look at it like Marley is like a gatekeeper. His songs are so well known by now that they serve as an introduction to the genre. But like you say, there is so much more out there. Like many, I purchased Legend to get the “best of the best,” and then looked around for more. Third World in particular had hits on the R&B chart so they were easy to find.

  2. There’s a few songs I like of his including “Three Little Birds”, “I Shot the Sheriff”, “Is this Love”, “Jammin'” and “Get Up Stand Up.” I had some of his CD’s in high school and college. I’m not sure what happened to them. I’ve moved around a few times so I lost things.
