I am fortunate enough to have President’s Day off. But even if I had to go in today, this song from Vivian Green would get my day off to a hot start. From one of those albums that I never got around to last year (and felt guilty about it), “Work” has the kind of beat and bassline that hits me in my happy place. I’ve been playing it all weekend; it won’t stay out of my head. And I’ve been doing several two steps…be right back….
(starts to step off)….
(five minutes later)
I’d love to feel as good as that bassline sounds. Goodness.
Granted, the “work” Vivian is talking about isn’t related to employment or anyone’s job; but the person needing to “put in that work” is being encouraged to handle their business, if you know what I mean. But never mind the lyrics. Just dig in to that great groove.
I’ve been a fan of Vivian’s from way back in the “Emotional Rollercoaster” days. I root for her because she’s a bit of an underdog. Her songs don’t get the kind of shine that some of the other, more popular singers do on the radio. But that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have good songs. To my ears, this is one of them. I will admit, I was a little disappointed that the lead single from her latest album basically lifted the hook from Frankie Beverly & Maze’s “Before I Let Go,” but this song makes up for that.
So, even if you’d rather have the day off, or even if you don’t—put in some work with Vivian’s new song. Happy Monday!
Also, here is the lead single from Vivid, “Get Right Back To My Baby”:
