Things That You’ve Been Told Are Deep Down In Your Soul

I’m calling it right now—the first great album that I’ve heard in 2016 belongs to the Tedeschi Trucks Band. Let Me Get By, released  last month, is chock-full of great songs, played by a great band. And it does my ears good to hear an actual band playing in this day and age of auto-tune and processed beats. Don’t get me wrong, I can get into that music too, and I like a lot of it. But you just don’t see bands like this playing music like this that much. You definitely don’t see many R&B bands out here anymore, at least in what is called the mainstream.

At any rate, I love this song. “Don’t Know What It Means” has that rock-solid backbeat, a bassline to die for, great horn lines, an outstanding vocal by Susan Tedeschi with great guitar work from Derek Trucks. The first time I heard it, the head nodded and the shoulders swayed. If you like bluesy songs with R&B trappings and great guitar leads, this is the band for you.

Just in case you don’t believe me, here’s a video of the band playing the song live about two months before the album’s release:

It’s the Thursday morning groove. If you have a story about a band and a song you love by them, tell it in the comments.

Thanks for reading, and thanks for listening.
