I have become a fan of the television show The Voice, but it wasn’t always that way. In fact, I didn’t really start watching until Season 5, when Tessanne Chin won. However, after I started watching at the urging of my youngest daughter, I joined a group of people on Twitter who live-tweet during the show (I watch at Eastern Standard Time). After a couple of seasons, a friend on Facebook asked for my opinion, and after a few more of my friends insisted that I keep going, I make comments there as well. So watching the show is a busy couple nights out of the week.
And as the title says, season 10 starts on Monday. And while I may complain that the show spotlights the coaches more than the contestants; that it is a popularity contest in the end; that NBC should only have one season rather than cram two from September to May; and the dreaded “montages” (where several contestants’ performances are truncated for time), I’ll be watching. One thing NBC does do well is prime the pump to build interest in the show. A couple of the blind auditions have been leaked on YouTube and I present them here.
The first one is from Alisan Porter. If you’ve ever seen the movie Curly Sue, see the star who played her all grown up and singing “Blue Bayou” by Linda Ronstadt.
This second audition is from Mike Schiavo, who sings Tove Lo’s “Talking Body.”
Those are just a taste of what’s to come in Season 10. This season, Christina Aguilera returns, sending Blake Shelton’s girlfriend Gwen Stefani to the sidelines this go around. She joins Shelton, Pharrell Williams and Adam Levine as coaches.
If you want to see my tweets during the East Coast airing of the show, follow me at @mindpinball on Twitter. However, if you are watching the show later, you may want to avoid my tweets, for spoilers may abound. I am undecided as to whether I will post a mini-recap of the show, but if I do, it will not be online until the morning after the show. Either way, I will definitely be watching and commenting on social media.
Feel free to express your impressions or lack thereof about the show, or the leaked auditions, in the comments.
