I had to give the 2000s some love today. All this talk about the 70s, 80s, 90s…all well deserved. But the 2000s had their share of club bangers, too. Yesterday, I mentioned that “Back To Life” by Soul II Soul was a club banger, one from my twenties. I was asked by a blogger friend of mine yesterday when that song was out, and it actually came out after I got out of college; after looking at Joel Whitburn’s Hot R&B Songs 1942-2010 book, I see it charted in August of 1989. That sounds about right.
Today’s morning groove is a club banger from my late thirties. Earlier this week, I featured Usher on Tuesday’s morning groove, singing the hook to Wale’s song “The Matrimony.” Today, he steps out front, with a little help from Lil’ Jon and Ludacris. The three of them craft what has to be one of the most memorable dance songs of the previous decade. It still kills. I’ve seen it played at parties recently and watched people sing along, chair dance and get up and move. What it doesn’t do is fail to get some kind of reaction out of people who hear it or know it, even over a decade after its release.
If you’ve heard it before, I dare you not to move. Although, that might be easier for some than for others. Me? You already know. And if you don’t know….
(starts video and steps lively)
…now ya know.
Enjoy your Thursday! Thanks for reading and listening.
