A Bracket Update

If you read my Catching The Hoop Flu post, or have spent some time over at the Life Of An El Paso Woman blog over the last couple days, you may have seen that Lisa from that blog and I have a little bracket challenge going. I felt that I should give a brief update as to how we are faring.

After three days, Lisa has taken a 50 point lead over me. I held a slight lead over the first two days of the challenge, but she had a pretty good day yesterday, whereas I flat out stunk. I got two games right, primarily because my bracket has more holes than a slice of swiss cheese.

Let’s see: besides the Michigan State debacle (which really hurt both of us), I have Baylor, Arizona, Purdue, and Utah to really thank for yesterday’s horrible performance. I had the Basketballbears of Baylor taking out Duke yesterday. But guess what? Baylor failed to show up to the game! So Duke got to play Yale. Let me tell you: you know it’s going to be a tough day when you find yourself rooting for Yale against Duke. And the result went just like I expected. I root against Duke no matter what; so now I have to root even harder against them now.

Let me give my thanks also to the Arizona Wildcats and the Utah Runnin’ Utes for not even bother to show up for their most recent losses. The Arizona loss to Wichita State on Thursday night is particularly painful; it has torn a nice-sized hole in a place on my bracket where I had them slotted to face Kansas in a spot for the Final Four. Then I watched Utah get worked by Gonzaga yesterday. To say I was disappointed is being very mild. Very.

So hopefully, I can make up ground today and in the rounds to come. If not, there will be cackling somewhere in El Paso, Texas in about a couple weeks, that I’m sure I’ll be able to hear all the way in Maryland.

  1. As a dedicated Hoo’s fan, I don’t do the brackets … except to take UVA all the way! ๐Ÿ™‚ I did see tweets on Friday from a Middle Tennessee person that their fundraising department got donations from a couple of UVA alums on Friday as a “thank you” for knocking Michigan State out of the tournament. It was vindication, since many experts were saying that MichSt deserved the #1 seed instead of UVA.

Hey, if we knew how everything would wind up, we wouldn’t need to play the games, right? ๐Ÿ™‚

      1. Maybe you should wear something from them, then. But I’m okay with you wearing A&M gear. As long as you’re the one who’s wearing it when this is over. ๐Ÿ™‚
