I’ve been called out. Someone is looking for some go-go on this here blog.
Giving them Backyard Band’s Adele cover of “Hello” wasn’t quite enough. So I gotta bring some more out here. (the linked post above explains a bit what go-go music is, for those who don’t know).
The band Black Alley is not necessarily a go-go band, but they can crank with the best of them. Need some proof? Check out their cover of Fun’s “We Are Young,” and just wait till they get to the first chorus. And it that doesn’t move you, hang in there until approximately the 3:40 mark. I guarantee you, something will make you move. There is a YouTube version of them doing this song, but I prefer this version that is for sale at their Bandcamp page. It is contained on the Recycle Bin, Vol. 1 album, which is chock full of covers of other artists’ songs, done in Black Alley’s style.
Bonus: Back Yard Band member Hot Sauce guests with the band on this version. If you play this below, two caveats: it’s a recording of a live performance, but the sound isn’t always the greatest (a couple fadeouts can be heard), and the next song on the album (a cover of B.O.B.’s “We Still In This B***h”, featuring T.I. and Juicy J), will start playing if you don’t shut the player off when the song is finished. Then again, you might want to hear their version of that song.
I can’t even remember when I first heard Black Alley, but I think I was exposed to some of their music from a podcast I heard a few years back called the Friday Favecast. Sadly, the Friday Favecast is no more, but Black Alley are still out here doing it. After hearing their “soul-garage” or “hood rock” music, which according to them takes the best of “funk, jazz, soul, rock and go-go” and their attempt to make it into something unique, I purchased their debut album Soul. Swagger. Rock. Sneakers, and I was impressed. After going through their discography, I found the song that provides the Morning Groove for today.
Now who was it that called me out? My Twin (which is short for “Wonder Twin”), Gwin from the Seekthebestblog. You can find out how I was called out and why she and I refer to each other as “Twin” in this blog post. Many thanks for the constant reminder of getting some more go-go on the blog. Rest assured, this won’t be the last time.
As always, thanks for reading and listening.
