Prior to a few weeks ago, I had never heard of Alvin Clayton Pope. The multi-instrumentalist (piano, drums, keyboards, alto & tenor saxophone) from Wilmington, Delaware never crossed my path in any way until I heard a couple of his songs from one of his previous albums-that I also hadn’t heard before. I liked what I heard, so I found his website and signed up to be on his mailing list. He offered a few tracks for free in exchange for joining the list, so I listened and liked those as well.
Pope has recently released a new album called The Good Life and it is his best yet. Working with smooth jazz veteran Nils, with guest appearances by saxophonists Jessy J and Jeff Kashiwa, Pope has fashioned a solid, classy set of tunes that satisfies. One of the best of those songs is called “Bout That Time,” and it is the Sunday Morning Groove.
Enjoy today’s Morning Groove, and as always, thanks for reading and listening.
