Who Will Look At Me

I’m going to try something different. Chevvy at Chevvy’s Studio requested that I try to write a poem. I’ve never thought of myself as a poet, so I resisted for a while. Recently, she reiterated the challenge (yes, I’m putting her on blast, but it’s all in love). At the same time, another WP blogger also encouraged me to try to write a poem. So here it comes, my first effort (or it may also be my last). We’ll see how it goes.

The poem was inspired by a line I heard in Kelly Clarkson’s song “Piece By Piece,” in which she sings the words “restore my faith.” I then took the phrase “who will look at me” and put it together. So here it is.

Who will look at me

Look beyond the scars

Who will look at me

To see the real me

Who will look at me

To restore my faith in love

Who will look at me

To complement, not complete

Who will look at me

To appreciate, not to fix

Who will look at me

To allow me into your heart

Who will look at me

To discuss, not small talk

Who will look at me

To see a handsome man

Who will look at me

To enjoy a laugh or two

Who will look at me

It might just be you.

      1. Off with their heads! So let it be written -so let it be done!

No, seriously who cares what other people think?

        Explore your inner poet!

You have something special here. As Chevvy said it is well written and very heartfelt and that, to me, is the key!

      2. I was a lot younger then. It wouldn’t bother me as much now. I’ve had people laugh at some of the blog posts I’ve done, but those were made to make someone laugh. Even if they laughed at ones that were serious, it wouldn’t bother me as much now.

  1. Mr T.Wayne – WoW – just Wow! I’m so sorry I missed this earlier. Thank you so much for responding to my challenge and I am so impressed that you did this. That is half the battle won – stepping out of your comfort zone. I had shiver running down my spine when I read this.
This is straight from the heart and as I always say- there’s the word you see and the ones on between. I hate to think I might have bullied you into this. For me it was seeing the potential and knowing that everyone has something to say. Now here’s a song that comes to mind to do some of those famous moves to. Well done Tracy!!!

    1. Bullied is way too strong a word…you gave a gentle nudge. When I was much younger, I wrote poetry but when I showed it to others they laughed, so I pushed it aside, to never do again. That is why I resisted. But you and another person encouraged me, and since I’ve been stepping out of my comfort zone, not easily, but still all the same, I tried it. Thanks so much, I’m glad you liked it. I don’t know if I have any more like that in me, but we’ll see.

      1. Yes, I nudged you and you’ll write again if you feel like it. I just know that we can surprise ourselves with what we are able to do and like anything in life you acquire confidence. Thank you my friend for taking that bold stepπŸ‘πŸΌ

    1. Suzette! Thanks so much! I know, I usually say “my house, my rules” so I usually write what I want anyway, but I had never published a poem before. So so glad you liked it, and again, thanks for the hugs!

  3. I had to come back here and no one laughed. It’s great to see all the support you have received. Be proud of your achievement. Taking a risk or seizing the moment is sometimes what it’s all about in all areas of life. Even when one fails sometimes, you gotta pick yourself up and try again πŸ™‚

      2. I’m surprised too-I was at a cookout and just got back home not too long ago. Wasn’t sleepy when I got in, saw I had some comments to reply to, so I went ahead and did that.
