As my regular readers know, every Friday I pick a song or several songs for a Flashback Friday post. This week, I’ve given another blogger a chance to tell us about those nights down South in the summer. If you’ve been around in the last few months, you’ll see she’s no stranger; she’s like family here. Our musical tastes are so similar, we call each other Music Wonder Twins! So please give a warm welcome to Lady G from the Seekthebestblog as she breaks it down for us…
Greetings from Lady G!
First, let me say a HUGE thank you to my ‘musical twin’ T. Wayne for letting me stage a friendly take-over 😉
Now I realize that many of you came here looking for a morning time groove; however, your girl, Lady G, is here to mix things up and shift your focus toward the night.
Um hmm, I can hear somebody already saying, “Lady G, it’s 8:00 am, why are you talking about night? Well you see, In the South, where I’m from, we LIVE for night time; especially in summer.
Why, you ask? Well if you’ve ever been anywhere below the Mason-Dixon line then you already know that summer days down here can be miserably hot and humid. Such being the case, you will, no doubt, find us cooped up inside– under an air conditioner– seeking much needed respite from old Sol.
Yes honey, you can bet your life that we’re gonna stay indoors until our area of the world turns away from Earth’s closest star.
Oh but when the night falls, we emerge from our self imposed prisons to enjoy the remains of the day. To be sure, we are gonna get in our rides and bump our favorite jams.
Baby, some of us will play the Blues, some of us will play Country and Western and you best believe that somebody is gonna
Uh oh! Did I just get sidetracked? Well you’ll have to forgive me. As I was saying, in the South, music is our road dog!
As for me, I like to ride with Classic Soul, R&B, Acid Jazz, Contemporary Jazz and Classic/Southern Rock. Trust me, your girl is just flexible like that. Baby I can go from Tyrone Davis to Janelle Monae to David Bowie to Ronny Jordan to America in one fell swoop!
At any rate, some folks just aren’t able to ‘go there’ with me when it comes to the eclectic nature of my musical leanings. No shade to them; everybody has his or her own preferences. But with that said, since I started blogging about music, I have found a community of like-minded people who can roll along with EVER-Y-THING that I throw out!
Ain’t that right Twin? And I suspect that if you have opted to continue to read this post then you can roll with me too!
And so, I say to you, my music loving bloggers, regardless of your location, let us enjoy our ride into a ‘Southern night’ with a couple of T. Wayne inspired smooth grooves. Rest assured that my selections come from a group that always plays well in in the North, South, East or West!
And with that, I give you Frankie Beverly and Maze!
(Golden time of Day)
Thanks again to T. Wayne and thanks to you for reading this post! Remember, you are welcome to come visit me at my spot anytime!
Thanks again Lady G, for being my third Guest DJ! Please offer your comments on Lady G and her choices below and be sure to take a look at her blog, if you don’t already follow her. I think you’ll like what you find. If you would like to guest post on a Flashback Friday, please let me know at firstname.lastname@example.org or @mindpinball on Twitter. There are no restrictions as to genre, style or type of music you can present; you can pick one or several songs to feature.
Enjoy your Friday, and as always, thanks for reading and listening!
