As promised on Sunday, Brian Culbertson is back for another Morning Groove, this time with singer Noel Gourdin. Today’s song is called “You’re My Music.”
When I first heard this song back in 2012, I figured it would be the last song I’d ever want to hear, given where my head was at that time. My ex had just walked out of my life, and I wasn’t in the best frame of mind to appreciate a song where a man is singing that his woman is like a song, or “the best melody in his life.” Yet the more I heard it, the more I could appreciate the craft behind it, and in time the sentiment as well.
Written by Culbertson and Taj Jackson, the song is a perfect fit for the Quiet Storm format, and I’ve heard it there several times. As sung by Gourdin, it’s a first-rate charmer in my eyes. It had to be, if I was going to like it given the state I was in in 2012. Culbertson does what he does best with his ballads, offering a light but assured touch on the piano. Since that first hearing, it has become a favorite of mine. The album that contained it, Dreams, ended up being one my picks for the year.
If you haven’t heard it before, take a listen to it and tell me what you think. The video above makes it easy to follow along with the lyrics. Enjoy today’s Morning Groove and this week’s entry in the #RomanticTuesday challenge. As always, thanks for reading and listening.
