So, it’s Friday. Here lately my Flashback Friday posts have been songs to make you get up and get on down for the weekend to come. Today I come with a declaration: it’s time we became “One Nation Under A Groove.” That’s right: the band whose song forms the title of this here blog is back and bringing the funk. Maybe it’s Funky Friday?
So let me ask you: do you promise to funk, the whole funk and nothing but the funk? If you do, this jam is for you!
This is a chance for you to dance your way out of your constrictions. Feet don’t fail me now! If you aren’t aware, those are some of the lyrics in today’s Flashback Friday song. George Clinton’s “guitar band” (as opposed to Parliament, his “horn band”), was Funkadelic, which made its name with such classics as “Maggot Brain,” “Standing On The Verge Of Getting It On,” “Cosmic Slop,” “Get Off Your Ass And Jam,” “Undisco Kidd” and so many more. Out of all of those, today’s song was their biggest hit, landing at #1 on the R&B charts for six weeks.
It has been a week this week. I don’t know about you, but I am glad today is Friday. I’m going to be cranking this one up today. Perhaps one day we all can be one nation under a groove, but until then I can pump up this funkadelic relic. Keep it on the one and I hope you have a great weekend!
As always, thanks for reading and listening.
