Walls

This heart sits captive in walls

Built by the mind

Sculpted with the latest security features

To keep out the bad

Because the gate rarely opens

The good is kept at bay

This heart sits captive in walls

A life I once lived…hoping that doesn’t become the live I will live. Because life is not lived if the heart is held as a prisoner. Guard the heart, yes; keep it captive, no.

  1. A guarded heart is a protected one. A captive heart is when you give it to someone else…and they stomp on it.

People don’t keep their own hearts captive – they let others do it for / to them.
    Just my observation…

      1. I’m aware of that. I stand by my observation.

Plenty gets in and out of a guarded heart…just not the toxic B.S. that others dish out and consume.

    1. Thank you Tessa! I don’t write a lot of poems, but I was encouraged to try to do so a few months ago by two other bloggers. This one was hanging around for awhile until I could come up with the words to finish it.
