I hope we all are thankful today. Every one of us, no matter our circumstances, should have something to be thankful for. Family, friends, career, or just being alive…we should be thankful. I’ve often heard it said that we should have an attitude of gratitude, and I believe that to be true. Grousing about what you don’t have or haven’t gotten only means that you are overlooking the things that you do have and enjoy.
For me, I am thankful for my family-for their love, their prayers, their concern over my well-being. I am blessed and thankful to have you looking out for me. Those that are here with me now and those that helped me along to get where I am. If you don’t know, I aim to let you know how much you mean to me.
I am thankful for my friends-those in the flesh and those in the digital space-for the laughter, for the entertainment, for the statements that make me think. Since I started blogging in 2007, I have met so many interesting people in and around the internet and through social media. And my friends here locally have been a big source of encouragement and support through the ups and downs of life.
I am thankful for my job and my co-workers-working together makes it happen. It also helps when you all get along. There has been some upheaval and rocky times through my time at the day job, but we keep grinding day after day. We strive to provide excellent customer service to the taxpayers of our county, and to our fellow employees in other departments, and we succeed more often than not.
I am thankful for the soldiers who are giving their lives and serving so that we can enjoy our freedom. And for the veterans who performed their service so that we have arrived where we are. I know we have Veterans Day and Memorial Day, but every day we should remember those who serve. To my nephew serving in the U.S. Navy, thank you for your service, and hope to see you soon.
I am thankful for sports-the real life reality show. You never know what you’re gonna get, but win or lose often it is a source of joy. Whether it be baseball, basketball, football or soccer, I enjoy them all. I am also happy to see many women get more opportunities to talk about the games that they love, rather than just existing as sideline reporters. There’s still a ways to go, and some Neanderthal commentary from those trolls with keyboard courage probably makes the job a little harder, but keep fighting ladies.
I am thankful for music-for the feelings, the memories, the emotions. Even on my worst day, I can always find a song or songs to bring me up. There isn’t a day that goes by that I’m not listening to some music, somewhere. Whether it be satellite radio, a streaming service, or an old CD I put on to reminisce to, it is always a source of joy, as is finding new music to create new memories with.
I am thankful that we live in a time where technology has advanced so much, seemingly within the blink of an eye. From my high school days learning on old Apple II computers with the large floppy disks, to personal portable laptops, workbooks and tablets, to smartphones that can do just about anything a computer could do not all that long ago, technology has advanced rapidly. If the saying is “may you live in interesting times,” technological advances over the last 20-30 years have made these years one heck of an interesting time.
I am thankful for our Lord, who watches over me and mine. Thankful that although I haven’t always been as good to Him as I should be, he has always been good to me.
