First of all, I’d like to wish each and everyone of you a Happy New Year! Unlike last year, when I planned to have a post for New Years Day and failed, this year I have succeeded. That right there makes this year start off on the right foot.
Every year since 2002, the rapper Skillz has provided hip-hop fans with a yearly “Rap Up” track. I posted last year’s here, and made note that he had plenty of material to work with. If that was the case, then 2016 has offered him even more to work with. Others have since provided their own versions of the year-end rap song, but Skillz was the first to do it; because of that I always roll with his.
From Donald Trump (obviously), to Harambe, to police shootings of black men, to Janet Jackson’s pregnancy, Beyoncé’s year, Kim and Kanye, the Cubs and Cavaliers and other sports headlines, shots at other rappers, and the Killer Clown panic, it has just about everything that happened in 2016.
Like many of you, I’m glad to see 2016 gone, even as personally things improved for me. Outside of that though, as Skillz says, the year felt like “a long bad dream.” Feel free to relive the year through Skillz’s rhymes, but be warned; the song is NSFW (even if it is Sunday).
