You Saw Me

Something of a companion piece to Who Will Look At Me, the first poem I published on this blog.

All the time I waited

For someone to look at me

And there you were

Hiding in the shadows

I saw you, but I couldn’t really see

The person that was looking at me

Yet all the time I waited

You saw me.

I wanted someone to look at me

To look beyond my scars

I wanted someone to look at me

You saw me, the real me

I prayed that someone would see me

And restore my faith in love

I dared hope that someone would look at me

Who would complement me

When you saw me

You didn’t try to complete me

I wanted someone to look at me

You appreciated me, without trying to fix me

My walls slowly began to cave

When you saw me

I allowed you into my heart

As you allowed me into yours

I wanted you to see me

As I was, not where I should be

I’m glad you looked at me

You saw that handsome man

When you came from the shadows

You made this one man a part of two

I’m glad you looked at me

I’m glad that it was you.

For the teacher. No more playing Cyrano de Bergerac for someone else. You can direct all your lovely words to me.

Take it away, Mr. Billy Paul. Another singer we lost in 2016.

Since I opted not to die on the Teena post, I will play that card now with THIS:

    You saw that handsome man

When you came from the shadows

You made this one man a part of two
