Night number 2 of the knockout round was last night. There were three knockout pairings on the show. In order of appearance:
Anatalia Villaranda and Dawson Coyle led things off for Team Alicia. Anatalia sang “Two Black Cadillacs” by Carrie Underwood, and Dawson sang “Demons” by Imagine Dragons. Power for sure with Anatalia…maybe the song calls for that. I’d like to see her sing with a little nuance…and not push every phrase so hard. Not that it was bad…but it was like a locomotive speeding down the track. Dawson sounds a bit off to me at the beginning to me. He picked it up as it went along though. I wouldn’t be surprised if Dawson gets picked, but Anatalia types usually move on from here. In fact, Anatalia was chosen by Alicia to move on.
Enid Ortiz was paired with TSoul in Team Blake’s next knockout pairing. Enid sang “When We Were Young” by Adele, and TSoul sang “These Arms Of Mine” by Otis Redding. Good grief. These song choices….whoa. Anything Adele is always a challenge…and Otis Redding’s first hit-simple yes, but the way Otis sings it…so emotional. Enid makes her way through Adele’s song very well. It’s Voice-worthy, but it isn’t going to make me forget Adele’s version at all. Even Otis doesn’t sing the song as slowly as TSoul is here. I love the song…I’m not as enamored with TSoul’s performance though. I thought that Enid would win, but Blake went with TSoul. I should’ve guessed that he would win; Enid was featured in a montage, which is usually a kiss of death for this show.
Aaliyah Rose and Brennley Brown were the next knockout pairing for Team Gwen. Aaliyah sang “Like I’m Gonna Lose You” by Meghan Trainor and John Legend, while Brennley sang “Up To The Mountain” by Kelly Clarkson. Aaliyah gave a very good performance of the Trainor-Legend song. Brennley was good also. I think there’s a steal coming, so it really doesn’t matter who wins. As it turned out, Gwen chose Brennley to move on, while Blake stole Aaliyah to join his team.
More knockouts to come next week, and Alicia Keys is the only judge with a steal left. I still have no idea who wins this thing.
