Jam It Or Slam It?: Ledisi

I’m back.

New look. You like?

I never planned to change the blog theme from what I had used for most of last year, but when I saw the new signature theme from WordPress for 2017 (called Twenty Seventeen, of course), I thought I’d give it a shot. It may undergo a few more minor tweaks, but I think I’ll stick with this one for a while.

There will be a few words written about my trip (and some pictures, too).

So, with my return, I’m going to do a quick Jam It or Slam It with a new song from Ledisi.

Not counting her 2015 EP release (The Intimate Truth), some covers she did that I posted and a song called “I Can’t Breathe,” there hasn’t been a whole lot of noise from Ms. Ledisi Young. “High” may well be the kickoff for a new project from the amazing singer; no details have been released as to the name of the new album nor when it will be released. When it comes, it will be the first proper album project in three years, following The Truth from 2014.

But if all we have is this single to go on, I’ll be looking forward to her new music. Count me in the Jam It! category. Ledisi can certainly shout with the best of them, but on this release, her voice is a controlled instrument. The backing music sounds great, and her vocals (both lead and background) are outstanding.

So what say you? Jam It Or Slam It?

  1. Welcome back … I missed your funky posts 🙂 And your New Look is a winner !
Haven’t heard to much from the lady … so I’ve saved this for my next troll round YouTube … but whilst listening – she reminds me a bit of Jill Scott. Very nice indeed!! Thankyou 🙂

    1. Thank you for the welcome back, and for the kudos on the new look!

I think you’ll enjoy what you find from Ledisi. She’s one of the best R&B vocalists out now, though mostly here in the States she’s heard more frequently on adult R&B stations rather than the mainstream ones. But fans know where to find her music all the same.

  2. I like it, but I would have to listen a few more times to see if it really grows on me… it all depends on mood, I think, 🙂

I missed last week’s Voice… so I’m behind, I don’t know what’s going on, especially as you couldn’t do your recap. Welcome back!

    1. Thank you Paula! I’m actually watching Monday’s show right now, so I can have an idea of what happened. I already know who was eliminated, but I need to see why (or, why they shouldn’t have been).

    1. Hi Joan! Ledisi has been around for awhile, about as long as India.Arie as it happens.Glad you liked this song; I’m looking forward to hearing more from her new project when it is available.

    1. That’s the sense I’ve been getting, though I’ve seen some criticize the song for trying to be “trap” music. I don’t have a problem with that, if indeed that is a problem. All I know is that woman could sing the phone book and I’d probably buy it.
