Sunday Slow Jams: Send One Your Love

In the course of his career, it goes without saying that Stevie Wonder has written his share of Quiet Storm favorites. Today’s Sunday Slow Jams post is the second part of a tribute to Wonder, whose birthday was yesterday. Many of these songs will be familiar to fans of the singer-songwriter; a few may not be quite as easy to recall. All bear the signature stamp of one of the greatest artists to ever record or sing.

The songs range from 1972-1995. The earlier ones, those from the albums Music Of My Mind through Songs In The Key Of Life represent Wonder’s high point. Having just received creative freedom from the Motown hit machine, Wonder was able to write and perform his music his way. His early work brought the synthesizer into vogue as an integral part of music making; what others have pushed almost to the extreme as replacements for musicians, Wonder used as seasoning for his songs; though he too would become a part of using the synthesizer as the whole band. Even so, there was no replacing the heart and soul that Wonder contained at his core.

No Boney James this week for the usual theme; just going to go with Stevie from end to end. As always, the playlist of songs is listed in case there are ones you cannot play. Feel free to seek them out, if you wish.

    1. Thanks Kim! I think I get easily distracted, like I want to change the blog almost any time a new theme comes out that looks relatively decent. The last theme I stuck with for more than a few days was the one I thought I would keep. While I loved it, I do like this one even better.

  1. What a lovely collection. It’s hard to pick a favourite save to say that some are so nostalgic for me like “You and I” and “ribbon in the sky”. But there are others I haven’t heard before that give me a new appreciation of Stevie Wonder’s music. I agree with Love is in need of love today. Thank you for a lovely treat!

    1. Chevvy, you are welcome! I figured that “You And I,” “Ribbon In The Sky,” and even “Knocks Me Off My Feet” would be the big favorites. At least, those are the ones people I talk to mention the quickest when I ask or talk about their favorite Stevie Wonder songs. I hope you enjoy the songs that you haven’t heard before!
