Smooth Jazz Sunday-Sunday Mix #18 (So Nice)

Let me get the kinks out….

It’s been two months since I’ve done a Smooth Jazz Sunday playlist, and wouldn’t you know, for the first time back, I’ve gone a little overboard. Nineteen tracks, all taken from the most recent Smooth Jazz BDS Radio Chart, provided by Billboard magazine. I don’t think any of them have been on a previous list; I tried to pick songs that had only been on that chart for six weeks or less.

Enough intro; let’s get into it. As always, if you can’t play any of the videos, I’ll list the included songs below so that you can seek them out.

  1. David Benoit & Marc Antoine-“Caminando”
  2. Gerald Albright-“Frankie B.”
  3. Cindy Bradley featuring Paula Atherton-“Girl Talk”
  4. Chuck Loeb featuring Mitchel Forman-“Happy Hour”
  5. Brian Culbertson-“Let’s Take A Ride”
  6. Lindsey Webster-“Next To Me”
  7. Paul Brown featuring Chris Standring-“Piccadilly Circus”
  8. Darryl Williams featuring Euge Groove-“Here To Stay”
  9. Paul Jackson, Jr. featuring Jeff Lorber-“Down The Road”
  10. Boney James-“Tick Tock”
  11. Andre Cavor-“Road Trip”
  12. Michael J. Thomas-“Baby Coffee”
  13. Marc Antoine featuring Tim Welvaars-“Deixa”
  14. Allen Carman Project-“Carmanology”
  15. Walter Beasley-“Now What”
  16. Javier Colon-“Clear The Air”
  17. Jack DeJohnette, Larry Grenadier, John Medeski & John Scofield-“Lay Lady Lay”
  18. Najee featuring Incognito-“Let’s Take A Ride”
  19. Carol Albert-“One Way”

Some notes:

The inclusion of Chuck Loeb’s “Happy Hour” is bittersweet, as Loeb passed away last month from cancer at the age of 61. Loeb had a lengthy career, both as a solo artist and most recently, filling the guitar chair of the smooth jazz supergroup Fourplay.

For Just Joan, should she read this, there is new music included from my man Boney James. “Tick Tock” is the lead single from his new album Honestly, which was released on Friday. It’s his sixteenth album, and it comes almost twenty-five years to the day from the release of his first, Trust.

So many collaborations on this week’s list and Marc Antoine does double duty as both a featured and main artist. There’s also an interesting collaboration between two female horn players-trumpeter Cindy Bradley and saxophonist Paula Atherton join forces for the fun track “Girl Talk.” Finally, there are appearances from some of my favorites, featured plenty here on the blog: Euge Groove, Brian Culbertson, Najee, Lindsey Webster (who is having a great year), and many more.

For those who use Spotify, here’s the playlist on the service:

It’s so nice to be back doing this. Hope you enjoy this mix and thanks for reading and listening.

Boney James has made it on to my list today😀 Loved Girl talk and Lindsay Webster is definitely a good choice on today’s list. Have a great week ahead! 😀
