So…once upon a time, I used to blog here. I’ve been gone awhile, hope this works.
Anyway, I can’t make promises that I’ll keep blogging regularly. But I do miss the writing part. And the featuring music part. And the laughs, and jokes and comments. Does that make me a person starved for attention?
Life has been good, very good. Some travel, some good food (if you follow me on Instagram or Facebook, you’ve seen the food…and the wine too). There’s still music though. Always music. The teacher is still here too, life is really good with her. There was a time I never thought I would find love, but I think I’ve found it.
Anyway, the music. I’ve been listening to quite a bit of it. Mostly new music, but not necessarily what is playing on the radio. When I was writing regularly, I wrote a lot about old music. Somewhere in my brain, there’s an Aretha Franklin tribute post, but I haven’t put the time together to actually write it. Maybe in a few days, I’ll find some and put it out here. Maybe someone will actually read it.
So, in a sort of welcome back, I’m going to do a twofer. Way back in the stone age of 1990, Ralph Tresvant of New Edition had a hit with a song called “Sensitivity.” A Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis production, it was straight out of their production playbook; smooth and silky. Raced all the way to #1 on the R&B chart, and placed top 5 pop. Anyone remember that song?
Yeah, that one.
Fast forward to 2018, and a group called the Dangerfeel Newbies team up with the Sabor! Brass Band and Tajh Abdulsamad of the 80s/90s R&B group The Boys to remake the song with a twist. Gotta admit, I was skeptical when I read about the concept of this cover, but after a few listens, I dig it. Take it for a spin, and see what you think.
Reminds me of the brass band remake of Marvin Gaye’s “Sexual Healing” a bit. But then, I might be a sucker for the brass band sound.
Stay tuned…and a special shout out to the El Paso Woman, Ms. Lisa A. for coming through and asking about me. We’ll see if this thing continues. I promise that I will try to write more often, but I can’t promise regular daily posts.
